Bird series and studies

Yellow flower painting

I’ve been doing small paintings lately and enjoy them more than I thought I would!  They’re really good practice.

Flower studies

Also, these are done.  I was looking through old photos and I have so many flower, landscape and nature photographs I took that I forgot about. I want to start painting some of them. I figured it’s a good way to practice skills as well.

These studies below were mostly experimentation and they don’t look perfect, but I like the concepts and I enjoyed working on them. I might continue working on them or just paint over them (that’s the nice thing about acrylic). I used to feel that if I did a painting and it wasn’t successful that it was a waste, but that’s not the right way to look at it. Now I see it as a step towards mastery and that’s always what it was, I just wasn’t seeing it correctly.  I try to look at everything that way now, nothing’s really a waste of time as long as you learn from it.

And I also started this bird series, the photos were taken when I was in Germany. I look at these photos and I can’t help but smile, I absolutely love birds. They are so adorable.
