I’ve long wanted to try digital painting. It’s less wasteful, portable, no setup required… the main downside is that it’s more time spent in front of a screen. Which has always stopped me, because I work on a computer and don’t want to spend more time there. But on a recent vacation when I didn’t have art supplies and did have my tablet and stylus with me – I finally tried it! I had plenty of time and spent at least an hour a day doing it. The image at the top is the last one I did that week, after I had practiced quite a bit and was really starting to get the hang of the program I was using. Which by the way had so many features I didn’t even get to try most of them! It’s exciting but overwhelming, so I just stuck with a few brushes and options.
It was very enjoyable and is especially great for designing products. I think it’s challenging to digitize traditional paintings. I’ve tried to make some prints of my paintings and drawings but the colors never seem to turn out right. I have a decent photo printer and scanner, so I’m missing something in the editing phase, I guess. But with digital art that’s not really an issue.
This is one of the designs I made just for fun. I was going for a cute Halloween theme and I really like how it turned out even though it’s not very good, LOL. It’s so much fun to create stuff like this. I can spend hours on a painting that turns out technically much better, but for some reason looking at this just makes me laugh.

Same thing with this one:

LOL. I came up with these designs while I was at work. Not intentionally, because ideas just randomly pop into my head. That’s why I have a notebook with me at all times. Then I just do a quick sketch when something comes to mind. Now I have even more ideas pop into my head with this new medium. That’s what I love about creating, the ideas can be so spontaneous. It’s the same with writing songs and blog articles, ideas just come to me. I have so many written down that I’ll never be able to do them all.
Also did these 😀
